At that time the owner was not willing to sell the vineyard. Thus they decided to rent it.
As it was not in the best conditions, Luigi and Lorenzo decided to replant it completely, replacing all the vines, the poles and the wires. They had to deep plow the soil and add a good drainage system.
Everything at their own expenses. An enormous investment, and an extremely difficult decision since with the rent, once the contract would end, there was the possibility to lose the vineyard.
Nonetheless the will to have this plot was very strong. They could not miss the opportunity to have such a unique vineyard.
In 2004, after 12 years, with much economic effort and great satisfaction, Luigi finally succeeded in purchasing it.
This was the first vineyard he had created ad hoc, according to his wishes and from scratch. Luigi and his father Lorenzo chose vines through massal selection from materials coming from the best vines of our Cru Bricco Fiasco in Castiglione Falletto. It was like having another child.
Luigi has always had the desire to produce Barolo Cerretta as a Cru but since the vines were too young, he decided to use it in the mix of the seven Crus for the production of the Barolo Classico.
After almost 30 years, at last, Cerretta is ready to be vinified separately as a Cru to honor the Centenary of our estate.

We have waited for almost 30 years to vinify the single vineyard Cerretta separately, in order to have older vines. The wait is finally over!
Barolo Cerretta is dedicated to the Centenary of our winery.
